So lots of people, mainly girls, are so giddy when Valentine’s rolls around on the 14th. It’s great, but have you really thought about where it came from? Did you know two martyrs pretty much gave birth to Valentine’s?
Here’s why I think Valentine’s (v-day) is one of the biggest bullshit ‘holidays’. Think about it for a second. Did you really need Hallmark, Zales, Kay Jewelers and FTD to tell you how expect ‘love’? Give me a break people. They don’t give a shit if you are loved, they give a shit only about how much your love can pad their profits.
Guys are expected to be extra sweet and ‘loving’ on the 14th. Seriously, girls, if your guy is only acting that way on the 14th and no other time, you have a big problem. I tell Suz I love her every single day. The 14th won’t make me love her more or less. It’s just another day in our lives.
Instead of wasting money on flowers that die, put it away in savings for your next vacation together. Or maybe save for your (folks who aren’t married) wedding? Or how about that down payment on the house you can live in together. Get with it girls, stop getting herbed by those marketing departments!

I was in New Haven, CT visiting another office (POP) of ours. My co-worker decided to take my other co-worker and me to this hamburger joint. We drive down Crown St. and end up at Louis’ Lunch. This place sells burgers on toasted sliced bread with tomato and onion or nothing. Like the sign says on the wall, it isn’t Burger King and you don’t get it your way.
Anyhow, I order two burgers with cheese, tomato and onion of course and a Diet Pepsi. My co-workers ordered the same. There was 10 minutes of silence as we ate. The burgers are just that good, lean and juicy.
So now I’m back at the office in Stamford, CT and I decide to read up on LL. From the Wikipedia article, I just ate two burgers at the birthplace of the American hamburger.

Let’s talk about indecisiveness. Suz always says I’m indecisive about things. For example, her biggest complaint is scheduling things. Due to my DNA, I grew up being more passive about things than most people. It’s not that I’m a dumbass, it’s just that, I really don’t care a whole lot about certain things. I’m passive about things that don’t affect me. Time is just time, it doesn’t pay me and I’m not in debt to it.
For example, unless it’s work related, I care very little about time. This morning, I had training over in Hartford, CT. I was told to arrive by 9:30, I got there at 9:28. Keep in mind, I was on the 95 and 91 in CT coming from WP. If you’ve driven that route, you know how ridiculous it can be. Anyhow, I’m never late for a work related appointment.
On the other hand, for things like telling someone what time to go eat dinner or when to meet up, I like time ranges. For dinner reservations for example, 99% of all places will give you a 10 minute grace period. So if it’s something like an 8PM reservation, I usually say come ‘around’ 8. I’m not a stickler for this because, well, I just don’t worry about these things. If you’re late by 10 minutes, no one gets hurt and no kittens get murdered.
If you really think I’m bad about this, ask yourself this then. For people who have gone to the movies with me, when was the last time I was ever late to that? Never. Movies are on a set schedule, there is NO grace period. I don’t fuck with that, I hate going into a theatre in the dark. Or how about getting to the airport. When was the last time I was late to that? I’ve seen and heard people miss a flight, that just isn’t me. Again, that is a set schedule, there is NO grace period.
For things I’m truly passionate about, there is no wavering in what I do. For the nerds and geeks, it’s all binary. It’s either 1 or 0. If something is needed for the computer, network, etc., I just pick it up. If something is needed for the car, I get it taken care of the same day. Put it this way, I bought my car (both of them) in under two days both times. If I know what I want, I don’t beat the bush senseless. So am I really indecisive? Sure, on things that really don’t bother me, time being one of them. For everything else, it’s a different story
