Virtual desktops

Posted by Ed on September 30th, 2005 — in Software, Internet, Neat Links

If you’re into CSS design with some Javascript’ing fun, you’ll get a kick out of this. Take a look at a virtual desktop. The icons are clickable as well as dragable. Neat huh? That’s not the end of it, here’s another example taken a step further. Take a look at FlyakiteOSX, which mimics OSX. VERY nice CSS/JS development.

Google in NYC?

Posted by Ed on September 29th, 2005 — in Technology

With the recent slip of Google’s intentions of offering wifi service, many people have started speculating who, what, where, when and how. Seems Bryant Park in NYC has gotten a certain someone to do a certain sponsorship. Not sure why I’d be in Bryant Park, but it’s good it’s there I suppose.

On a bad note, my co-worker was sick, so of course, he comes to work with a full blown phlem coughing cold. Every few minutes I can hear the wet slapping sound of his cough. So now, my throat is a bit sore. On with some interesting information.

Yarg, die!

Here are some recent things that have peeved me.

1) People who flick cigarette butts out their moon/sun roof when I’m behind them. This should be a ticket, wait, two tickets. One for littering on the highway and one for attempted murder. Ever try to swerve out of the way of a flying butt at 80MPH?! I would totally go road rage on someone if that butt ended up in my hood scoop.

2) Parents who bring little crying children to church. I’m all for family fun bonding day, but come on. When you bring a little kid to church for sunday mass, all the little shit does is cry and moan. Why? Because that’s what kids do when they are B O R E D. Leave the kid home, take turns on who stays home with the kid. Or, learn to beat your kid correctly. Wrap up the kid in a lot of sweaters and go ape on them. No bruising for the kid, but he or she sure will remember it!

3) When HD channels not broadcast in HD. For example, NBC has a HD channel. Now if you have one, you better be showing everything on that chan in 720 or up in 16:9. But no, alas, NBC is borderline retarded. For example, SNL. It’s on HD, but it’s not. Why the hell not? Does NBC want to lower their ratings some more?

Speaking of 2), I was at church again this sunday morning to attend my RCIA class. Now I’m sure many of you who know me personally, find me insanely attractive. Just kidding, back on topic. So, why am I doing it? Is it for the fame of going up in front of 500 people to be blessed by the priest every Sunday? No. Is it the 2 hours of sitting in a house with a deacon talking about the day’s scriptures? No. It boils down to…can I do it? What does it take to have faith in something? Am I totally into Catholicism? I don’t think I am at this point, I’m too much of a geek to rely on faith and religion. So why go? I think the main push is because of the person I see when I wake up every morning. If this means so much to her, then it should mean so much to me. That’s all, nothing else to it.

Speaking of 3), the new fall tv shows are out. So what’s the shit to watch this season? Here’s my list of new and old (I like lists):

I’m on the fence right now about Surface. I love shows and movies that deal with, to put it childishly, monsters. This thing is ALL about a Loch Ness wannabe. However, the tone of the show tries to put a comedic spin on things, which it totally fails at. More shots of monster please. Of course, this list would not have been possible if I wasn’t watching any of these in HD. HD makes you want to watch TV, ALL THE TIME.

Now before I go, I’ll have to show you this super ramen I saw at the Asian market. I need a doctor, stat!

I felt the old blog got a bit dated. So here’s something new and swank.

Lucky 5s?

Posted by Ed on September 24th, 2005 — in Random

Did you know you can buy a sheet of 5 dollar bills with the number 8 all over the place. If you’re Chinese, you’ll probably know that the number 8 is good luck no matter where you put it. What better place than on money, right? My uncle visited some mint that sold these sheets of 5s and bought some. He gave one to my dad as a gift when he visited. Strange, but this sheet costs $90!

Fiver!

Hi there

Posted by Ed on September 23rd, 2005 — in Random

Haven’t been around much, just been a tad busy with everything. So recently, I’ve taken up a hobby. It may sound strange, but it brings much joy to Suz and me. Well, mostly me as I do all the work. What is it you may ask? I like to feed bugs I kill in the house to my Kois. Occasionally, Suz will scream and go, “ED, THERE’S A SPIDER IN THE TUB, GO KILL IT”. This is where I spring into action. Grab a little bit of tissue and squeeze down on the little critter. I say a simple “Sorry for killing you, my Kois are hungry”.

I then proceed on over to my 30G tank (thanks David) and drop the sucker in. Within a few minutes, the Kois would swim up and gobble it all down. Usually I bank on one Koi taking it, this spotted black, white and orange one. He’s the fastest out of the three I have so he’s always up to the top first. Suz’s little lionhead goldfish never makes it since his mouth is still too small to swallow the bugs I throw in.

Does that sound crazy? I’m sure it does, but it so much fun watching them prey on a tiny bug.

I got a bluetooth headset recently, I look like the secret service when I drive. Jealous?
